Hurricane Ernesto Nearing Bermuda

Hurricane Ernesto is now very close to Bermuda, sitting roughly 65 miles SSW from the island as of 9pm CDT. Sustained winds are currently near 90 MPH, with higher gusts occurring. Power outages have been already been reported around the island today as heavy winds and rain have pushed ashore. The National Hurricane Center is expecting Ernesto to bring 6 to 9 inches of rain to Bermuda, in addition to significant coastal surge flooding. All of Bermuda is currently under a hurricane warning.

Ernesto is currently moving NNE around 13 MPH and the center is expected to pass over Bermuda in the early Saturday morning hours. Conditions are expected to rapidly deteriorate as the storm moves over the island. All public transportation in addition to the airport have been shut down as part of preparations for the storm.
