Southeast Severe Threat
Severe weather is likely today in parts of the Southeast. There is an Enhanced Risk from Louisiana to far southern Tennessee and far western Georgia. This includes Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile, AL, Baton Rouge, LA, and Columbus, GA.
Thunderstorms are already ongoing across parts of the Deep South. A Tornado Watch is in effect for parts of Alabama and Mississippi until 4 PM CT.
Today’s primary severe weather threat is damaging wind gusts. There does exist a threat for a few tornadoes, especially in the aforementioned Enhanced Risk area.
Today’s severe weather follows an active day yesterday for many of the same areas. One man died in the Atlanta area after power lines and a tree fell on his vehicle. In northeastern Mississippi, several homes and businesses were damaged or even destroyed due to tornadoes.
