Background

SevereStudios Inc. is the leader in live severe weather streaming.

Using technology perfected by SevereStudios, storm chasers are able to stream live video while actively chasing storms to the SevereStudios Live ChaseCam Network. These Live ChaseCam feeds can then be viewed by local, national, and world-wide media, the National Weather Service, and our website visitors.

We also provide high quality daily ENG video and stock footage to TV networks and production companies. Millions of viewers have seen severe weather captured on tape by the SevereStudios Chase Team. SevereStudios chasers have broadcast multiple-day tornado outbreaks in the Plains, Midwest, and Southeast, massive Gulf Coast hurricanes, blizzards, severe flooding, wildfires, and more. Our footage has been featured on major TV networks including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, The Weather Channel, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News Channel, and Discovery, as well as local broadcast stations from coast to coast.

SevereStudios chasers can cover severe weather anywhere it happens in real time. Our team uses vehicles that are specially equipped for live video broadcast with HD video cameras, laptop computers, mobile internet, live radar, GPS tracking, HAM radios, weather radios and more. These technologies allow us to cover storms quickly and accurately, and stay safe when chasing severe weather in dangerous situations. By utilizing the experience, talent, and skill of the SevereStudios Chase Team, we strive to cover North American severe weather events in a coordinated and professional manner.

History

SevereStudios was founded in 2007 by broadcasters and storm chasers Kenny Allen and Kory Hartman, and is dedicated to informing the public about severe weather. Their mission is to develop and promote initiatives that will focus on better severe weather preparedness and action. SevereStudios provides severe weather information, including spotter reports and live on-scene video, to the greater public through collaboration with media and local and state government.

On April 24, 2007 from central Kansas, SevereStudios became the first organization in history to successfully stream live tornado video over the Internet free to the public. With only a slight delay, the National Weather Service (NWS) offices and local media could view the severe storms that the SevereStudios Chase Team was observing. This technology helped NWS meteorologists generate faster and more accurate warnings, and also conveyed the danger of the storms to the public when the feed was broadcast live on television. In 2007, the "Live ChaseCam" was viewed by five NWS offices and thousands of individuals all over the world.

In 2008, SevereStudios launched SevereStreaming, a Windows Media-based video hosting service geared toward storm chasers. In addition, the Live ChaseCam Network was launched. Visitors were now able to watch numerous live cameras from the SevereStudios Chase Team and other independent chasers across Tornado Alley and beyond!

Little Sioux Tornado

Kory Hartman and Kenny Allen made history again on June 11, 2008 when they were accidentally caught inside the Little Sioux, IA tornado. The team streamed the inside of the tornado live on television for the first time as it roared over their chase vehicle. WOWT-TV in Omaha was the station to receive and broadcast the feed, thus making television history as well.

After the tragedy at the Little Sioux Boy Scout Ranch was revealed to the team, SevereStudios.com and its media partners launched a fundraising campaign for the Scout Ranch and for Camp Ranger Nathan Dean's family. SevereStudios was proud to present a check for $3,527.37 to the Scout Ranch and the Dean Family on October 11, 2008.
