Severe Risk for Plains and Midwest to End the Week

August 18 Severe Risk

Severe weather is possible Thursday and Friday for parts of the Plains and the Upper Midwest. On Thursday, South Dakota, Minnesota, and western Wisconsin have the greatest threat for strong storms that could produce large hail and damaging winds. This threat for severe weather may persist into the overnight hours.

August 19 Severe Risk

The unsettled weather will continue on Friday with a larger risk area expanding from parts of Kansas into southern Minnesota. Potentially impacted cities include:

  • Wichita, KS
  • Kansas City, MO
  • Omaha, NE
  • Des Moines, IA
  • Sioux Falls, SD

Once again, large hail and damaging wind gusts will be the primary threats with the strongest storms. A few tornadoes can’t be ruled out.

We’ll have chasers in the field to cover these storms both Thursday and Friday. Follow their streams here!
